£73m star gives Manchester United fans even more reason to be excited about £81m signing

Less than 12 after Antony sealed his £81 million transfer from Ajax to Manchester United, Jadon Sancho popped up with a ‘don’t forget about me’ reminder.

Sancho was United’s big summer signing in 2021, costing £73 million. It wasn’t a smooth transition for him.

The former Dortmund star arrived after an unhappy end to Euro 2020, without a pre-season, and saw the manager who signed him, sacked within weeks.

A miserable campaign followed for all concerned, but Sancho is looking like playing a key role in Manchester United’s turnaround under Erik ten Hag.

Sancho gives Manchester United fans even more reason to be excited

Sancho had shown promise by netting three goals in pre-season. He has now scored twice in the Premier League this season, halfway towards his meager tally of four in all competitions last season.

The winger is capable of being prolific, once hitting 20 goals in a season for Dortmund. It’s important for United to get him back to that type of form.

Sancho’s start to the season is providing encouragement. First there was the excellently taken goal at home to Liverpool to break the deadlock in the crucial win almost a fortnight ago.

Then last night he struck a similarly well composed goal to give United the lead against Leicester, rounding the goalkeeper after Marcus Rashford’s pass.

A consistent and productive Jadon Sancho is an asset to Manchester United, and to pair that with new arrival Antony, is a very exciting prospect.

Antony is likely to start for United on the right wing, but not at Sancho’s expense. Sancho will start on the left, with Marcus Rashford dropping out of the side. Either Anthony Martial or Cristiano Ronaldo would start up front.

As good as Antony is, he can’t be expected to kickstart United’s attack by himself. He will need help, and with Sancho beginning to fire, Erik ten Hag may be on the verge of discovering a very exciting partnership.
