Ajax want club record sale for increasingly frustrated Antony

Manchester United target Antony has been left frustrated by news that Ajax are demanding a club record sale fee for his signature, 90min understands.

The Brazilian winger has made it clear to the Amsterdam giants that he would like to move this summer, knowing that Erik ten Hag wants to take him to Old Trafford.

United have made Antony their top attacking target and have been holding talks, but sources have confirmed to 90min that they have been left ‘shocked’ by Ajax’s stance.

Ajax’s current record sale is from Frenkie De Jong, ironically United and Ten Hag’s other major transfer target, who joined Barcelona in a deal worth €92m in 2019.

But now the Dutch champions, who have already sold Lisandro Martinez to United and Ten Hag, have made it known to Antony and his agents earlier this week of their new stance.

Listen now to 90min’s Manchester United podcast, The Promised Land, with Scott Saunders & Rob Blanchette. In the latest edition they talks about Cristiano Ronaldo’s future after he turned up at Carrington with his agent Jorge Mendes for talks with Erik ten Hag. The guys also discuss the links with Benjamin Sesko, plus Lisandro Martinez, Paul Pogba’s injury & more!

90min has been informed that Antony did not take the news well. The player had been led to believe Ajax would accept a reasonable fee, something which they do not believe is now the case.

United’s interest does remain. But 90min understands they have made it clear that they are not prepared to meet the asking price for Antony, stalling the potential deal for at least the time being.
