Arsenal board ‘big fans’ of £113m star who’s now desperate for January move – journalist

Arsenal have been looking at Atletico Madrid’s Joao Felix for a “long time”, according to journalist Paul Brown.

The Gunners hierarchy are apparently “big fans” of the 22-year-old forward, he added on GiveMeSport.

Arsenal may have bolstered their ranks significantly in the summer transfer window, but they failed to make any late acquisitions.

The Gunners were reportedly trying to get a new winger and a new midfielder over the line around deadline day.

It hasn’t mattered much so far, with Arsenal in dazzling form and sitting top of the Premier League table.

But with the January transfer window edging ever closer, the Gunners may well delve into the market once again.

And Felix could be one of the big movers of the month, if recent reports are to be believed.

According to Marca, the Portugal international has asked Jorge Mendes to help him leave Atletico in January.

Felix is yet to really hit his potential following his £113million move to Spain back in 2019.

He has made 12 appearances so far this term, but is yet to open his account for the season.

Brown believes members of the Arsenal hierarchy have been impressed with the attacker and a January move has not been ruled out.

“Arsenal have, for a long time, looked at Joao Felix,” he wrote on GiveMeSport.

“I think he’s known very well to some of the hierarchy there, who are big fans and have been for quite a while.”

Felix ticks many Arsenal boxes – our View

At one point, Felix was regarded as one of the very elite young talents in world football.

With that, he is still just 22, so he certainly fits the profile of player Arsenal are looking for right now.

As well as being a world-class talent, Felix is versatile.

He mostly plays as a second striker, but can also feature up front, at No. 10, and on the flanks.

Added competition for the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Gabriel Martinelli, Bukayo Saka and even Martin Odegaard.
