Reports from Italy have claimed that Arsenal are poised to rival Chelsea over the potential signing of Nicolo Zaniolo from Roma.
According to FootballNews24, the Gunners are one of the parties also interested in signing the midfielder, who is yet to contribute to a goal this season.
Despite not finding the net in an injury-hit season up to now, it hasn’t stopped him showing his quality over the last couple of campaigns.
He has become a favourite of current Roma boss Jose Mourinho, with the former Blues boss frequently raving about the 23-year-old’s talents.
FootballNews24 has reported that the two parties are currently at a stumbling block regarding extending his future with the Serie A club, and they are looking to install a release clause worth around £42m.
The report goes on to say that Mikel Arteta’s side are one of those that are interested in acquiring him if he becomes available. Juventus are also keen to strike a deal.
Arsenal join Zaniolo race
The Blues have been previously linked with a deal for Zaniolo, with them reportedly pushing to strike a swap deal with American Christian Pulisic.
A midfielder is likely to be on the agenda for the Blues next summer. The situation remains unclear regarding the future of both N’golo Kante and Jorginho.
The Frenchman is currently unwilling to sign a new deal with the club, based on the terms offered to him by the new Blues owners.
The 31-year-old is looking for a four-year deal to commit his future to Stamford Bridge, whereas Todd Boehly is only looking to offer a two-year contract.
Jorginho meanwhile is also yet to commit his long-term future to the club, with his contract set to expire next summer too.
With these potential leavers, it could be someone like Zaniolo who is called upon to fill the void.
