Belgium vs Iceland – Euro 2022: TV channel, live stream, team news & prediction

Belgium and Iceland both face an uphill struggle to go far in Euro 2022. Neither qualified for the last World Cup in 2019 and each was knocked out at the group stage at Euro 2017.

This time around, they are in a tough Group D alongside Italy and France, although this match against each other could provide with enough of a springboard to cause an upset further down the line…if either of them can take advantage.

This game was among the handful of games to quickly sell out when tickets went on sale. Iceland are expected to bring huge travelling support and availability at the smallest venue in use at the tournament was very soon outstripped by the demand.

When is kick-off? Sunday 10 July, 17:00 (BST)
Where is the match being played? Academy Stadium, Manchester
TV channel/live stream? BBC Two (UK)
What time does coverage start? 16:45 (BST)

The attacking combination of veteran Tessa Wullaert and emerging star Tine De Caigny, who have scored 25 goals between them in 2023 World Cup qualifying, will test Iceland’s defensive strength.

Goalkeeper Cecilia Ran Runarsdottir has been a last-minute withdrawal from the Iceland squad after breaking a finger in training on Friday. She is replaced by Audur Sveinbjornsdottir Scheving, which is allowed until each team plays its first game.

Belgium (4-3-2-1): Evrard; Cayman, Deloose, De Neve, Philtjens; Delacauw, Vanhaevermaet, Biesmans; Wullaert, Dhont; De Caigny

Iceland (4-3-3): S. Sigurdardottir; Atladottir, Viggosdottir, Arnardottir, Gisladottir; Brynjarsdottir, Gunnarsdottir, G. Jonsdottir; S. Jonsdottir, Thorvaldsdottir, Vilhjalmsdottir

There is very little between these teams – only two places separate them in FIFA’s rankings, with Iceland narrowly ahead in 17th. Each has a collection of good players, but both squads also have limitations.

Prediction: Belgium 1-1 Iceland
