Chelsea ‘likely’ to speak to Michael Edwards in sporting director search

Chelsea are expected to make contact with former Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards over a possible move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

Edwards enjoyed a hugely successful ten years at Liverpool, earning plaudits for his impressive transfer business before allowing his contract to expire this summer, admitting that he had always planned to limit himself to a decade at Anfield.

Chelsea are on the lookout for a new sporting director after confirming the departure of long-time executive Marina Granovskaia, with new owner Todd Boehly taking over the club’s transfer business while a full-time replacement is found.

Atletico Madrid’s Andrea Berta was linked with a move to the Bridge earlier this summer and now The Telegraph have thrown Edwards’ name into the mix.

There is no indication as to whether Edwards would be interested in the role, only that Chelsea are expected to reach out to the 43-year-old to determine his next career plan.
