Douglas Luiz has opened up on his decision to commit his future to Aston Villa upon signing a new long-term contract until 2026.
The 24-year-old joined Villa in 2019 and has gone on to become an integral part of the team, making over 100 appearances in claret and blue. The Brazilian had been in the final months of his contract which was due to end next summer, but has now put pen to paper on a fresh deal.
Luiz was the subject of interest from Arsenal on deadline day during the summer transfer window but Villa stood firm.
Speaking to Villa TV, the Brazilian made his feelings clear over his love for the club. “I’m so happy. Yesterday I say I’m so happy in this club,” he said.
“I love the people here, the staff, the players, I’m so comfortable here and I’m so happy.”
Asked about his decision to commit his future to the club, Luiz added: “Because I love this club, this club opened the door for me to come here to England and play in the Premier League.
“The club has given me the space and I’m so happy, because I’m staying here and my choice is here.”
