Fabrizio Romano: Manchester United pushing to secure next signing after Antony, personal terms agreed

Manchester United are pushing ahead to make another signing after agreeing a deal for Ajax winger Antony. The Athletic report a £84 million deal is in place.

United are already focusing on the next addition, reports Fabrizio Romano. The Red Devils are targeting Martin Dubravka.

Manchester United want Dubravka next

Romano says Dubravka has already agreed personal terms with Manchester United, with a loan offer plus £5 million submitted, with a purchase option.

A move for Dubravka is a short-term option for Manchester United, to apply more pressure on David de Gea.

36-year-old Tom Heaton is also viewed as an inadequate back-up in case De Gea was ruled out with injury. Dubravka started 26 Premier League games last season.

He has since lost his place at Newcastle to Nick Pope, but they are also agonising over whether to let him go, as he provides quality back-up for them too.

Dubravka’s desire to move on could be key. Newcastle would have time to sign another back-up goalkeeper themselves.

His arrival would allow United to send out Matej Kovar and possibly also Nathan Bishop on loan.

This move would really just defer a long term view on United’s goalkeeper to next summer, when David de Gea’ contract will be up, and Dean Henderson returns from loan. It’s quite possible United go with neither, nor Dubravka, and look to sign a new goalkeeper in 2023.
