‘Good opportunity for him’: Arteta hints ‘outstanding’ talent will get minutes for Arsenal tonight

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has hinted that Martin Odegaard could come off the bench against Bodo/Glimt tonight.

The Gunners are hoping to make it three Europa League wins out of three as they take on the Norwegian champions.

The game will see Odegaard – captain of Arsenal and Norway – return to his home country.

Odegaard left Norway in 2015 as one of the country’s most talented youngsters, linking up with Real Madrid.

Although the 23-year-old’s formative years in the game weren’t exactly straightforward, he has certainly made it.

Odegaard struggled to make a name for himself at the Bernabeu and took in a number of loan spells.

Then, he made the decision to join Arsenal, and the rest is history.

With it being a special occasion for Odegaard, Arteta spoke at length about the “outstanding” midfielder at his pre-match presser.

“It’s his journey,” Arteta told the Arsenal media team.

“He started in the spotlight very, very early in his career, and probably that’s why he’s so mature at the age he is at now.

“He’s been around for so long that we forget how old he is. But it’s his journey, he could not pick it.

“He was so good at that age, he got a lot of attention and he dealt with it in a really positive way.”

And when asked about Odegaard’s role on the night, Arteta replied: “Probably on the pitch at some stage!

“I don’t know, hopefully he can have a good time, it’s obviously a really important moment for him, he loves coming to his country.

“You know how much it means to him and it’s a good opportunity for him.”
