Guillermo Ochoa addresses Club America’s poor Liga MX performance

Liga MX giants Club America have endured a disappointing start to the 2022 Apertura, winning just one of their first four matches to land in 15th place on the table.

But captain Guillermo Ochoa insists there’s no need to panic yet, urging spectators to avoid “exaggerating things” with so much of the tournament still left to be played.

“With a lot of calm internally. Obviously friendlies don’t count, there are many changes, many players. We already analyzed the game the other day, we saw it yesterday, and I think it wasn’t our best game. It was hard for us to find ourselves on the synthetic pitch, and they found a goal very quickly, but it’s not like Tijuana played very well,” said the goalkeeper.

“Do not seek to exaggerate things, there is still a long tournament to go, many games, the tournament is long and the team is not going to stop looking for what has given us results since the last tournament, in the games we have had that have given us good things so we stay on that line always with the intention of improving in each game.”

But it’s no surprise the team has seen a decline in form. Club America’s attention has been on friendlies and international summer tournaments, instead of the regular season.

The Eagles have participated in the international preseason tournament Soccer Championship tour, bringing together teams from the Premier League, La Liga and Liga MX to compete for a trophy. The Mexico City team faced Chelsea and Manchester City earlier this month, and are set to take on Real Madrid for the last match.

Additionally, Club America is participating in a Leagues Cup showcase against LAFC on August 4, to tease the upcoming competition between Liga MX and Major League Soccer.

Club America returns to Liga MX action on July 31, amid their busy tour of America, wedging in a game against Leon between the Real Madrid match up and the LAFC showdown.
