‘He knew everything’: Romano claims Boehly spoke to one player before appointing new Chelsea manager

Fabrizio Romano has revealed on his YouTube channel that Chelsea owner Todd Boehly was well-informed before making the decision to hire Graham Potter as Thomas Tuchel’s replacement.

The American was quick to select the 47-year-old as the next manager, after dismissing Thomas Tuchel following the embarrassing defeat to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League.

It has been claimed that the breakdown of relationship off the pitch is the reason behind the sacking, with them disagreeing over a number of topics.

The appointment of Potter was made the day after Tuchel’s firing, with him being the only real candidate considered despite Mauricio Pochettino and Zinedine Zidane being among the list of out of work managers.

Boehly discussed Potter with Cucurella

Romano has claimed that Boehly even spoke to new signing Marc Cucurella about the manager, with the pair working together to much success at Brighton.

He said: ‘I wanted to reveal to you a secret story. The meetings about the Cucurella deal, it was first weeks of August.’

‘In the meetings, I’m told that Todd Boehly knew everything about Graham Potter. When he was speaking to the player, he knew everything about his ideas.

“He knew about the system, the ideas, the methods, he was absolutely informed on the manager. This is not so usual.”

“That was a message that he was already exploring that name. When he first spoke to Cucurella, he asked about Potter.”
