‘He’s too much’: Owen Hargreaves wowed by one Arsenal player who is just ‘magic’

Owen Hargreaves has raved about Gunners star Gabriel Martinelli and claimed that the thriving Arsenal player is just ‘magic’, as he told Matchday Extra on Premier League Productions (09/10/22 at 9:25 pm).

The 21-year-old produced perhaps his moment or performance in Arsenal colours on Sunday when he helped his side beat Liverpool at the Emirates.

Martinelli opened the scoring inside the first minute when Martin Odegaard’s pass split open an already-struggling Liverpool backline, before the Brazil star slotted home with a first-time finish.

Despite the away side equalising through Darwin Nunez, their thriving star on the left was at it again, this time Trent Alexander-Arnold and Jordan Henderson were his victims.

With the ability to go either left or right, the Liverpool duo had no clue how to defend against the Arsenal star, before he chopped onto his right and fed a brilliant ball to Bukayo Saka for his first goal of the game.

Martinelli is a player that is catching the eye, as Hargreaves raved about the player, as well as his captain, Martin Odegaard.

“Martinelli is magic, he’s too much,” said Hargreaves. “Jordan Henderson can’t let him chop back on the inside like that. But Arsenal look like they have a lot more belief than they have had in previous years.

“Odegaard is fantastic. I love the choice of him as the young captain. There are loads of players who you just want to go and watch play football. I think they are a really good watch.”

Martinelli-Jesus-Saka. What a front three Arteta is building at Arsenal and what a forward line that is causing havoc in the Premier League this season.

What’s even better about the trio is that the oldest of the three is summer signing Gabriel Jesus at 25, so that just goes to show how much more potential they have in their locker.

From Brazil’s lower leagues to perhaps the best domestic league in the world, it has been some rise for Martinelli, whilst Jesus came from not-too-dissimilar paths than his fellow countryman and Saka is a product of a very strong Hale-End academy.
