‘Hope he stays’: Arteta really doesn’t want Arsenal to lose one man after Romano update

Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Mikel Arteta has been speaking about Edu’s future after Fabrizio Romano’s update on the Brazilian.

The Italian journalist claimed last week that the Sporting Director is being eyed up by a number of top European clubs after his good work at Arsenal over the past 18 months or so.

Edu is a wanted man, and while he may be tempted away from the Emirates by the interest that has been shown in him, Mikel Arteta has now publicly stated that he wants his recruitment chief to stay at Arsenal for the foreseeable future.

ARTETA DESPERATE FOR EDU TO STAY

The Arsenal manager spoke about his Sporting Director’s future.

“I hope that he stays for a long time because I think it’s going to be really positive for the club. Hopefully that will be the case,” Arteta said.

SURELY HE WILL STAY

Edu is a wanted man, but it’s hard to imagine him actually leaving Arsenal anytime soon.

The Gunners are building a long-term project, and surely the South American will want to see this core of players through to their prime years and collect some silverware along the way.

Factor in the fact that Edu is a former Arsenal player who has a long-standing loyalty to the north London club harking all the way back to his playing days, and it’s incredibly tough to envisage him being tempted to leave the Gunners at this juncture.

Let’s not forget, Edu is still only young in Sporting Director terms, and once this cycle at Arsenal is over, perhaps then he could explore his options, but right now, a move away from the Gunners isn’t necessarily logical for Edu.
