‘I signed for their enemies’: £5m player says he absolutely loved Arsenal before joining Tottenham

The France international is most popular for his time as a Tottenham Hotspur player, but Spurs’ fierce rivals Arsenal were the team he was actually a fan of.

Moussa Sissoko joined Spurs from Newcastle all the way back in 2016. He spent five years at Tottenham, before leaving the club to join Watford for £5 million last year (The Athletic).

Now at Nantes, Sissoko has admitted that he was an Arsenal fan before he joined Spurs.

Moussa Sissoko says he was an Arsenal fan before he joined Tottenham

Just a couple of months ago, during a Q&A session on Instagram, Sissoko was asked if he was an Arsenal fan.

Responding via a video, the Frenchman shook his index finger sideways, gesturing that the answer is a ‘no’.

However, he has now admitted that he used to support Arsenal before he signed for the Gunners’ fierce North London rivals.

Sissoko said in an interview on the FC Nantes YouTube channel, as quoted by Sportwitness: “I’m going to get in trouble, but it was Arsenal when I was young, but when I signed for their enemies, Tottenham Hotspur, I stopped supporting them.”

He further revealed in the interview that Arsenal icon Patrick Vieira has always been his idol and the legendary Frenchman’s Gunners top was the first football shirt he ever owned.

Our View:

Sissoko isn’t the first Arsenal fan who ended up playing for Tottenham and he definitely won’t be the last one. Even Harry Kane once supported the Gunners.

The Frenchman was linked with a move to the Emirates in the past – before he joined Newcastle United. He never got his dream move, but he did manage to score twice against Arsenal during his time in England.

However, his record against the Gunners is an awful one. He faced Arsenal on 16 occasions and managed just four wins – all of those victories came in a Tottenham shirt.

Now at Nantes, far away from North London, we wonder who Sissoko supports in the Premier League = Arsenal or Tottenham.
