According to the Mirror, Arsenal are considering a move for PSV Eindhoven wonderkid Cody Gakpo as Edu aims to bolster Mikel Arteta’s attack.
The Netherlands international has been one of the standout players in Europe across the past 12 months, having scored 21 goals while also providing 15 assists in all competitions last season.
Gakpo has also started the 2022/23 campaign on fire with 13 goals and 11 assists in just 18 appearances.
Now, the Dutchman has said something that will surely interest Arsenal fans.
CODY GAKPO ADMIRES ARSENAL LEGEND
Well, the 23-year-old has interestingly admitted that he models himself on Thierry Henry.
As quoted by The Times, Gakpo said: “I’m a tall winger, but when you look for tall wingers there aren’t so many, so a few years ago I started watching Henry. He was more of a striker, but he was also tall and he liked to play off the side like me. I watched clips of him and tried to learn something from him.”
That will surely make Arsenal fans daydream of the PSV Eindhoven No.11 shining at the Emirates Stadium.
Gakpo is already doing a fine job of replicating what Henry brought to the game, but if he wants to mimic his idol even further, a move to north London would be a wise next step.
Aside from that, Arteta has already proven himself more than capable of developing young players such as Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli, so Gakpo should expect to improve significantly under the Spaniard.
ARSENAL FACE CODY GAKPO BATTLE
Arsenal aren’t the only side interested in Gakpo – which doesn’t surprise us given his efforts in the Netherlands.
The aforementioned story from the Mirror claims that Manchester United are keen to sign the £40m-rated forward as well, while they also state that Leeds are leading the race for his signature.
Of course, if Arsenal go on to finish in the Champions League positions – or even win the Premier League title – that could all change next summer, so be sure to keep an eye on Gakpo and his future.
