‘It could be one’: Arsenal may accelerate plans to sign ‘special’ player and move in January – journalist

Arsenal could make their move to sign PSV Eindhoven forward Cody Gakpo during the January transfer window.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth told Give Me Sport that Arsenal could accelerate their plans to sign Gakpo and has not ruled out a January move.

He suggests that Arsenal are still more likely to wait until the end of the season before going for the Dutch forward, but the possibility of a move in the winter window is there.

Arsenal could make Gakpo swoop in January

Sheth said: “Arsenal is an interesting one, because, throughout the transfer window, I think the right side of the attack was a priority position.

“Now, Gakpo’s priority position, and preferred position, is on the left, but he can play in the centre and he can play on the right.

At the moment, Saka’s occupying that right side of the front three just now. He would be someone that Arsenal would look at.

“I think it would fit the profile as well, as far as Arteta is concerned, because we know what he’s trying to build a squad of young players who’ve got high ceilings and high potential so it could be one that Arsenal do look at in January, potentially, but the summer is more realistically.”

Gakpo of course played against Arsenal last week, as part of the PSV team which went down 1-0 at the Emirates Stadium.

He has another chance to take on Mikel Arteta’s men on Thursday, when the Gunners travel to the Netherlands looking to make it five Europa League wins from five games.

Gakpo has been called ‘special‘ by PSV manager Ruud van Nistelrooy and has been in exceptional form this season, after a brush with a move to England in the summer.
