Italy vs Iceland – Euro 2022: TV channel, live stream, team news & prediction

Italy will be looking to bounce back from their crushing 5-1 defeat to France in their Euro 2022 group opener as they take on Iceland at the Academy Stadium on Thursday evening.

Group D appears the most open group at this summer’s Euros, and Iceland’s draw with Belgium in their opening match leaves quarter final qualification finely poised for all four sides.

Here’s everything you need to know about Italy vs. Iceland.

When is kick-off? Thursday 14 July, 17:00 (BST)
Where is the match being played? Academy Stadium, Manchester
TV channel/live stream? BBC Two (UK)
What time does coverage start? 16:45 (BST)

Valentina Cernoia remains a doubt for Italy, having sat out her side’s defeat to France after testing positive for Covid-19 on Sunday.

Italy have three players who picked up a yellow card against France and will miss their final group match against Belgium should they receive a booking on Thursday evening: Lisa Boattin, Sara Gama and Flaminia Simonetti.

Iceland are yet to be hit by any Covid-19 cases, and could remain unchanged from the side that drew 1-1 with Belgium in their group opener.

Youngsters Sveindís Jane Jónsdóttir and Karólína Lea Vilhjálmsdóttir particularly impressed on either flank, with the former wreaking havoc with her skill and directness, and that latter setting up her side’s goal with a teasing delivery.

Italy: Giuliani; Bartoli, Gama, Linari, Boattin; Simonetti, Giugliano, Caruso; Bergamaschi, Girelli, Bonansea.

Iceland: S. Sigurdardóttir; Atladóttir, Viggósdóttir, Arnardóttir, Gísladóttir; Brynjarsdóttir, Gunnarsdóttir, G. Jónsdóttir; Vilhjálmsdóttir, Thorvaldsdóttir, S. Jónsdóttir.

Having been dubbed dark horses ahead of the tournament, Italy massively underwhelmed in the first half of their group opener against France, before going on to win the second half 1-0 – how much this was down to Italy improving or France taking their foot off the gas remains to be seen.

Iceland showed flashes of class against Belgium and were particularly dangerous out wide, but lack the depth of quality across the team. A narrow Italy victory seems the most likely outcome.

Score prediction: Italy 2-1 Iceland
