India men’s national team midfielders, Jeakson Singh and Suresh Singh Wangjam have opened up on their performance for the Blue Tigers and their partnership in midfield as the duo impressed during their brilliant run in the 2023 AFC Asian Cup qualifiers.
While the likes of Sunil Chhetri, Ashique Kuruniyan, Sahal Abdul Samad, Liston Colaco and Manvir impressed for the Blue Tigers, the foundation for India’s supremacy was laid in the middle of the park.
Jeakson and Wangjam played a key role in maintaining India’s dominance in the middle of the park, with the duo revealing that being from the same state of Manipur and having played together on previous occasions during their youth days, has ensured that they enjoy a strong understanding on the pitch.
“Speaking the same language helps, and so does the fact that Jeakson is very disciplined in his positioning. So when I am out of position, chasing the ball or going forward, I know Jeakson is behind me offering enough protection. He is calm with the ball, good in the air, unfazed under pressure, and always in the right place,” Wangjam said in an interview.
Igor Stimac for his part is blessed to have a number of options in midfield ahead of the 2023 AFC Asian Cup and it will be interesting to see who he decides to play as part of the starting XI in the tournament.
