Manchester United will reportedly launch an audacious bid to sign rumoured Arsenal target Victor Osimhen that will see Napoli offered cash plus star striker Cristiano Ronaldo, who wants to leave for UEFA Champions League football.
According to Il Mattino, super-agent Jorge Mendes has alerted Napoli that an offer totalling €140m (£118m) is on its way for the Red Devils to sign Osimhen, who has long been on Arsenal’s radar with the Nigerian international regarded by many as one of the best strikers in Serie A.
With Anthony Martial’s injury problems causing selection problems for Erik Ten Hag, a star centre-forward is needed at Old Trafford, and whilst talks for Ajax star Antony continue, it now appears that Osimhen has appeared as a target for United, with the Manchester giants willing to offer Ronaldo to Napoli in order to sign the forward.
Ten Hag’s side are far from the only club interested in Osimhen this summer, though, with Bayern Munich reportedly interested in the former LOSC Lille star with Arsenal, as mentioned, long-time admirers of the striker, who Napoli are believed to value at €100m (£85m).
Indeed, this report of United offering cash plus Ronaldo to sign Osimhen seems absurd, to say the least, yet with the Portuguese striker keen to play in the Champions League and United desperate to add a quality centre-forward to their ranks, the rumour isn’t so crazy as first thought.
Whilst Antony seemingly remains United’s main target before the closure of the window, signing Osimhen from Napoli whilst also offloading Ronaldo could be a huge result for the Red Devils, much to the dismay of Arsenal, who have been linked with the Nigerian superstar for a good few years.
A deal of this magnitude so late in the window seems almost impossible to pull off, yet given the desperation of both United to sign a striker and Ronaldo to leave, there could be a way that this transfer is completed, with Arsenal potentially losing out on long-term Napoli star Osimhen to a Premier League rival.
As for United themselves, offloading Ronaldo and signing Osimhen in return would be a massive result for the club, with the Nigerian international perfect to lead the line for the Red Devils and to give Ten Hag the ideal striker to get the best out of Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford.
