Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has told the club’s official website that Marquinhos could get more chances in the coming weeks.
Arteta has said that he has been impressed by Arsenal player Marquinhos, who can play as a winger or as a forward and joined the Gunners from Brazilian club Sao Paulo in the summer transfer window.
The teenager scored a goal and gave an assist for Arsenal in their win against FC Zurich in the UEFA Europa League last week
MIKEL ARTETA ON ARSENAL’S MARQUINHOS
Arteta said about Marquinhos: “I was looking more at the faces of the rest of the staff and players (when he scored).
“He’s very popular, with no English, just with his smile and attitude. He has earned the respect and admiration of everybody here.
“It was a big step for him because he hasn’t played enough minutes with us but we were willing to give him the opportunity.
I think he deserved it, I think he took it really well and he’s a player that needs to keep developing and in order to do that we need to give him opportunities.”
The Arsenal boss added: “We want to build the steps and when we have asked him to play with the under-21s he’s done incredibly well.
“The attitude with every coach and player has been seen as ‘it can’t be any better’. That’s what we expect from the players so that’s why he got his chance against Zurich and he might get another chance very soon
In our view, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta’s comments on Marquinhos are very exciting for the attacker.
The Brazilian has clearly made an impression on Arteta, who wants to give him more chances.
Now, of course, Marquinhos will not start in the biggest of games for Arsenal, but the 19-year-old should be pleased that he will get some playing time at least.
And, when the 19-year-old gets those chances, he has to make the most of them.
Like he did against FC Zurich
