Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wants to move for Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pedro Neto now, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein in the Handbrake Off Podcast.
Ornstein has claimed that Arsenal have been looking at Wolves Neto for a while.
The well-known and well-respected journalist has added that Arsenal boss Arteta would like to move for the £39,000-a-week (SalarySport) Portugal international winger now.
The Daily Mail reported this weekend that Arsenal want to sign Neves in the summer transfer window.
The Sun journalist Daniel Cutts reported this week that the Gunners are willing to pay £35 million for the 22-year-old winger, but Wolves want £50 million for the Portugal international.
MIKEL ARTETA WANTS WOLVES WINGER PEDRO NETO AT ARSENAL
Ornstein said on the Handbrake Off Podcast, as transcribed by TheBootRoom: “They are still active in the market – that’s in terms of a potential incoming and outgoings too. Incoming – we know Arsenal would like to bring in a wide player.
“Ideally, that player would be Pedro Neto of Wolverhampton Wanderers. He is now the recruitment priority for Arsenal. He’s a player that they’ve liked for a long time. Now is the time Mikel Arteta would like to move for him.
“There has been dialogue for more than a month between Arsenal and Jorge Mendes, his representative, who also plays a key part in operations at Wolves. Mendes has also been discussing it independently with Wolves.
“Wolves are insistent that they don’t expect him to leave before the deadline. If they are to sell, you suspect the price will be very high. But Arsenal are exploring this, however unlikely this may be.”
COULD A TRANSFER HAPPEN?
In our opinion, if Arsenal are to be successful in their quest to sign Pedro Neto from Wolverhampton Wanderers in the summer transfer window, then they have to pay what Wolves want.
Wolves are a big and established club in the Premier League, and if Arsenal’s offer does not match their valuation of the winger, then they will not sell him.
They simply do not have to.
So, in our view, Arsenal need to pay what Wolves for Pedro or move on.
