“Need to improve”: Arteta names one Arsenal star who needs to ‘improve’ after Bodo/Glimt victory

Mikel Arteta thinks Arsenal youngster Bukayo Saka still has to “improve” defensively after producing another good display in a 1-0 win over Bodo/Glimt.

The Gunners have taken command of their Europa League group, with three wins from three games, and another victory in their next match will see them through to the next round.

It is a similar story in the Premier League too with Arsenal sitting top of the league after nine matches with closest rivals Manchester City a point behind them.

Saka scored the only goal of the game against Bodo/Glimt and has been crucial for Arsenal so far this season with three goals and four assists in the Premier League.

When asked if Saka is getting ‘better and better’ this season, Arteta replied: “Yes, but again he can become much better.

“He had moments in the game where he was really good and then moments he can improve and demand more of himself, especially defensively.

“There were moments where we allowed their left full-back to progress the play and break our press too easily. There a lot of things to improve.”

On the result against Bodo/Glimt, Arsenal boss Arteta added: “I’m really happy with the win against a team that has won the last 14 games here at home. It’s not a coincidence.

“We were expecting a really tough night here and we made a lot of changes again but I’m delighted to find a way to win. To do that under any circumstances is a real positive for me and the team.

“They are really fast and the turnovers and giving away of the ball that you don’t usually expect. The ball was leaping and it was out of your feet and you give it away and the game becomes so fast.

“I’m happy, but at the same time we have to improve a lot.”

Arsenal legend Martin Keown had some praise for Saka during the match and claimed the England international has “gone to another level” this season.

“It hasn’t been thrilling but it shows the reputation Arsenal are building,” Keown told BT Sport at half-time. “Sometimes you need to grind out wins and stand up to the opposition and play when you can play.

“When you get the ball to players like Bukayo Saka… he’s just different class at the moment this fella. He’s got the full-back on toast tonight.

“It was a great run for the goal, obviously he gets lucky but it’s brilliant how he gets into that area. He’s gone to another level.”

After the match, Keown added: “Saka’s top drawer. Tonight his class was the difference. He’s going through the gears in an Arsenal shirt now.

“All in all I think Mikel Arteta will be happy with tonight. They managed to grind out the result and they did just enough to get the win.”
