Newcastle eye shocking £15.5m move for three-time Serie A winner, who left Arsenal in 2017

Italian outlet CMW claim that Newcastle could make a surprise move to sign Juventus goalkeeper Wojciech Szczesny in the next couple of windows – with the Old Lady willing to accept an offer of £15.5million for the Polish shot-stopper.

Of course, 32-year-old Szczesny is well-known to the Premier League. He clocked up 72 clean sheets in 181 matches for Arsenal before leaving the club, initially on loan, in 2015. He moved to Roma, and impressed for two years.

That loan spell earned him a permanent move from Arsenal to Juventus in 2017. Since then, he has been in and out of the Juve side, but has become first choice following Gianluigi Buffon’s exit. Like Arsenal, he has 72 clean sheets, in 184.

But the difference between his Juve form and Arsenal, is that he has conceded 25 less goals. His Juventus contract is due to expire in the summer of 2024, and that is said to be interesting Newcastle. Despite, the presence of Nick Pope.

The report claims that Newcastle are considering a surprise move for the 66-time Poland international. It is believed a fee of £15.5million would be enough – and that Szczesny would command wages of £133,000 a week on Tyneside.

NEWCASTLE COULD MAKE SURPRISE MOVE TO SIGN SZCZESNY, £15.5MILLION

Newcastle do not need Szczesny. But, they could require a goalkeeper next summer. One to perhaps provide competition for Nick Pope – rather than simply be back-up. As things stand, the Toon’s current options are cover.

Karl Darlow’s injury saw Loris Karius sign a deal until next summer. But both are some way off England stopper Pope. So, having a goalkeeper of the kind of quality that can rival Pope might be something Newcastle look to bring in.

Szczesny would certainly do that. A much-improved goalkeeper since his Arsenal exit, Szczesny would provide Newcastle with a winning mentality – having won three Serie A titles. He could be a potential Toon bargain.
