‘Outstanding’: Pundit says Arsenal have a young player who’s just like Luis Suarez, he could play vs Liverpool

Joe Cole has compared Arsenal star player Gabriel Martinelli to Alexis Sanchez and Luis Suarez ahead of the Gunners’ Premier League clash against Liverpool on Sunday.

The young Brazilian, who’s still only 21, has had a fine start to the season. He has scored three goals and provided an assist so far, and he has been a real threat to every side he has faced this term.

Joe Cole compares Arsenal’s Gabriel Martinelli to Alexis Sanchez and Luis Suarez

Martinelli has started every game for Arsenal this season – even in the Europa League. He’s one of the first names on Mikel Arteta’s team sheet, and he is repaying that faith with excellent performances.

Just before Arsenal’s game against Bodo/Glimt on Thursday night, Cole raved about Martinelli. He hailed his technique, work ethic and tenacity and went on to liken him to South American superstars Sanchez and Suarez.

He said on BT Sport, as quoted by The Metro: “This is an outstanding footballer. I’ve loved him from the moment I laid eyes on him.

“He’s so busy, he reminds me of Alexis Sanchez and Luiz Suarez. He’s exceptional with the ball at his feet, he’s got great technique and he affects the game.

“He works so hard and I thought he was the man of the match in the north London derby [on Saturday]. When he gets the ball, there’s no thought of going back, he just keeps driving forward. He’s so tenacious.”

Our View:

Sanchez was a fantastic player for Arsenal during his first few seasons at the club. He was up there with the best in the country during that period, and if Martinelli can get to that level this campaign, Arsenal could achieve something really special.

The youngster has nailed down the left-wing spot at the Emirates.

His connection with Gabriel Jesus in attack has been sensational so far, and the way he bombs up and down that left flank makes him an extremely valuable player to have in Arsenal’s squad.

Arsenal take on Liverpool at the Emirates tomorrow and Martinelli is almost guaranteed to start.
