“Similar to Halland”:Arsenal now reportedly want to sign former Tottenham trialist who’s ‘similar’ to Haaland

Arsenal have been linked with Norwegian attacking talent Andreas Schjelderup, a player once on trial at Tottenham Hotspur.

According to Calciomercato, Mikel Arteta’s Gunners are among numerous clubs keeping tabs on the FC Nordsjaelland forward.

Goal.com has reported that Schjelderup previously had trials at Tottenham, as well as Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Juventus.

In the end, he opted for a team where he was likely to get first-team football soon, and he has already reached that goal.

Schjelderup has clocked up 51 competitive appearances for Nordsjaelland, registering 14 goals and five assists.

This season alone, the 18-year-old has registered seven goals and one assist from 12 outings.

Schjelderup’s contract runs out in 2024 and his employers are apparently willing to sanction £17.5m move.

Goal.com compared the teenager to Jack Grealish, while Dean Jones has said he has “similar traits” to Erling Haaland.

But the transfer insider, speaking to GiveMeSport, believes this could count against Arsenal.

“I don’t think there is such a thing as the next Haaland because he’s such a phenomenon,” said Jones.

“But you could look for a striker that’s got similar traits, by all means.

“There are similarities between the two of them, obviously.

“But I’m sure the last thing this player wants is to spend the next 10 years in Haaland’s shadow.

“He wants to be his own man, so one thing I think he should do, for now, is stay away from the Premier League.”

“Nightmare for defenders”

Earlier this year, Goal.com wrote of Schjelderup: “He is remarkably two-footed, making (him) a nightmare for defenders to deal with.

“Particularly given his strong dribbling ability, which has been compared by some to Eden Hazard but is, in reality, arguably more similar to that of Jack Grealish.”

And the player himself spoke of how he looks up to Martin Odegaard as well as Haaland and Andres Iniesta.

“Andres Iniesta is the player I always looked up to. His fantastic close-range technique made him a favourite,” Goal.com quotes him as saying.

“But I also very much look up to Martin Odegaard and Erling Haaland, especially the latter’s insane mentality.”

While Schjelderup has admitted that he’s a Liverpool fan, having Odegaard on board at Arsenal could prove a big selling point in future.
